This site has a retailer-qualified page for garage cabinets because “garage cabinets home depot” and “garage cabinets lowes” are among the highest-volume searches in the category. The same searches exist for slatwall and nothing here answered them. So: three stores, and they do not stock the same thing.
What each store actually puts on the shelf
Home Depot runs a dedicated Slatwall Panels category under garage wall organization, and it is the broadest of the three. Its brand filters list Gladiator, Proslat, NewAge, Flow Wall, Rubbermaid, Husky, ClosetMaid, GarageEscape, Econoco and VEVOR. The house-adjacent pick is Gladiator GearWall, sold in 4 ft and 8 ft two-packs, and its listing publishes the figure this site already carries: 50 lb per square foot, mountable on bare wood studs or drywall, with a 10-year limited warranty on the 8 ft pack.
Lowe’s is the odd one out. It does not shelve Proslat or a Kobalt slatwall; the garage slatwall it carries is NewAge PVC Slatwall, sold as a 40 sq ft kit. NewAge publishes 100 lb per square foot for it — double Gladiator, a third above Proslat — and a higher VersaSlat line at 125, or 250 with an aluminum add-on.
Costco carries Proslat kits, usually panel plus hook bundles rather than bare panels. Proslat publishes 75 lb per square foot. Club availability is seasonal and regional in the way club stock always is, so it is not something to plan a project around — but Proslat is also the one brand of the three that is properly available online, which makes it the only one of these three store trips you can skip.
What the three brands publish, side by side
Capacity figures quoted from each manufacturer's own documentation, re-read 4 November 2026. 'Not published' means the maker does not state it.
| Panel | On the shelf at | Published capacity | Cabinet rating | Buyable online |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Proslat PVC | Costco, Home Depot | 75 lb / sq ft | Not published | Yes, at a live price |
| NewAge PVC Slatwall | Lowe’s | 100 lb / sq ft | 400 lb incl. cabinet | No |
| Gladiator GearWall | Home Depot | 50 lb / sq ft | Not published | Search only, no live price |
| NewAge VersaSlat | Lowe’s, direct | 125–250 lb / sq ft | Not published | No |
| storeWALL Heavy Duty | Specialist, not these three | 300 lb / sq ft | Not published | Search only, no live price |
Two things fall out of that table. The first is that the big-store panels are not the strongest panels — the highest published figure in the category, storeWALL’s 300 lb per square foot, belongs to a brand none of these three stores stocks. The second is that the spread across one aisle is fivefold, from Gladiator’s 50 to NewAge’s 250 with the aluminum add-on, on products that look nearly identical hanging on a rack.
The one figure worth driving to Lowe's for
NewAge publishes something no other brand in this category does. For its own PVC slatwall it states that “the total weight capacity per cabinet is 400lbs including the cabinet itself”, and that “if installing the PVC slatwall on 24inch stud spacing, cabinets should not be installed.”
That matters because the cabinet-on-slatwall question is the one this site has repeatedly had to answer with an absence. Every other panel maker publishes a figure for a loaded wall and nothing for a loaded cabinet, and we corrected our own can you hang cabinets on slatwall page in the same change as this one, because it had said no maker publishes such a figure. One does.
Be careful what it licenses, though. It is a flat per-cabinet total rather than a rating at a cabinet’s reach from the wall, which nobody publishes. Four hundred pounds including the cabinet is not much once the cabinet is sixty or eighty pounds of steel on its own. And the 24 inch prohibition is the tell: one stud bay wider and the answer is no, which says the margin is thin even at sixteen.
Pack size decides what the trip actually costs
The three stores do not sell slatwall in comparable units either, and this is the part that catches people out at the till. NewAge sells Lowe’s a 40 sq ft kit: six 80-inch panels plus two end trims, a corner trim and an H trim, with color-matched screws. That is a finished wall section rather than a stack of boards, and the trims are a real part of why a kit costs what it does — buy bare panels and you are sourcing edge trim separately or living with a raw edge.
Proslat’s online packs run the other way: full 8 ft by 4 ft sections in multi-packs, or a single 4 ft by 4 ft section if you want to start small. Costco’s version is usually a panel-and-hook bundle, which is frequently the cheapest route to a working wall because hooks bought separately add up faster than people expect — the accessory sets are ranked in the slatwall hooks roundup and a 30-piece kit is not a trivial line item.
Gladiator sells GearWall through Home Depot in two-packs of 4 ft or 8 ft panels, each panel 12 inches high — so an 8 ft two-pack is 16 linear feet of panel, not 16 square feet of wall. That is the unit trap again in a different guise: a figure that sounds like coverage and is not. Work out the square footage you need first, because the three stores will quote you in three different shapes. The panel coverage arithmetic does that conversion, and it is worth ten minutes before a drive.
One more practical difference. NewAge is the only one of the three that says anything about a masonry wall — it states the PVC can be installed onto masonry, and that masonry hardware is not included. Gladiator names bare wood studs or drywall. Proslat’s published figure assumes a proper install without naming the substrate. If your garage is block, that is a materially different shopping trip, and what the wall behind it actually is is the page to read before you pick a brand.
Which of the three you can actually buy without the trip
This is where a retailer-qualified page earns its keep, because the honest answer is not the same for all three. Proslat is properly available online, in full 8 ft by 4 ft multi-packs and in single 4 ft sections, both at live prices on this page. If Costco is where you saw it and Costco no longer has it, that is a solved problem.
NewAge PVC slatwall is not. A catalog search returns Proslat and a row of generic PVC panels and no NewAge slatwall at all, so there is no buy button for it anywhere on this site and we earn nothing whichever way you go on it. If its 100 lb per square foot or its cabinet rating is what you want, Lowe’s is the trip.
Gladiator GearWall sits in between. It is a real product with a published figure and it turns up on Amazon, but without a live price on the listing the buy button here runs a tagged search rather than opening a product page. Home Depot is the more reliable route to it, which is the same conclusion the Gladiator wall system review reaches on the panel half of that range.

The default PVC slatwall, and the one whose documentation actually tells you how to hit the rating: 1-1/2 inch #8 pan head screws into studs at 16 inch spacing. The 75 lb per square foot figure is published without a load distance, so treat it as a flat-against-the-wall number.
- Load distance:
- not stated by the manufacturer, so treat the figure as a flat-against-the-wall number
- Fastening:
- 1-1/2" #8 pan head screws, studs at 16" spacing
Proslat states the fastener and the stud spacing, which most of this category does not. It does not state a load distance.

- No load distance published, so bracket-mounted shelving is unquantified
The brand Costco bundles with hooks, and the only one of the three store panels with a proper online route at a live price. Seventy-five pounds per square foot published, PVC, and a full 8 ft by 4 ft multi-pack that covers a real wall rather than a patch of one.
It is mid-table on the number: above Gladiator’s 50, below NewAge’s 100, a quarter of storeWALL’s 300. It publishes nothing for a loaded cabinet, and like every panel here except storeWALL it publishes no load distance, so a long bracket is unquantified. The multi-pack is also the dearest single line item on this page.
NewAge PVC Slatwall
NewAge Products · PVC Slatwall, 40 sq ft kit
NewAge Products is not sold through any affiliate program we have joined, so there is no button here and we earn nothing on it either way.
The closest thing we can link is the Proslat PVC Slatwall Panels.
The panel on the Lowe's shelf, and the only brand in this entire category that publishes what a CABINET hung on its slatwall may weigh: 400 lb including the cabinet itself, and none at all if your studs are at 24 inches. At 100 lb per square foot the panel rating sits above Proslat and well above Gladiator. We cannot link it.
- Load distance:
- not stated by the manufacturer, so treat the figure as a flat-against-the-wall number
- Fastening:
- Evenly distributed and properly installed
Published verbatim as "PVC Slatwall panels support up to 100 lbs. per square foot" when "evenly distributed and properly installed". NewAge also publishes two higher figures for its VersaSlat line - 125 lb per square foot, and 250 with the aluminum add-on installed - on the same conditions. No load distance is stated for any of them.

- 100 lb per square foot, above Proslat's 75 and double Gladiator's 50

- Sold off the shelf at Lowe's, where you can look at it before buying
- A higher-rated VersaSlat line exists at 125 lb per sq ft, 250 with the aluminum add-on
- Not sold on Amazon — there is no buy button for it anywhere on this site
- Cabinets are barred outright if your studs are at 24 inch spacing
- No load distance published, so the cabinet figure cannot be checked against reach
- No panel thickness and no panel height or length published
- Masonry hardware is not supplied, so a block wall is an extra trip
A hundred pounds per square foot, double Gladiator and a third above Proslat, and the only panel in this entire category that publishes a cabinet rating — 400 lb including the cabinet itself. NewAge also says the PVC can go onto masonry, which most brands here simply do not address, and it has a higher VersaSlat line at 125 lb per square foot or 250 with the aluminum add-on.
And you cannot buy it through us. It is not on Amazon in any pack size, so there is no buy button and no commission either way. The cabinet figure comes with a hard condition — nothing on 24 inch studs — no load distance is published, and neither a panel thickness nor a panel height appears anywhere, so the kit is specified by coverage alone. Masonry hardware is not in the box.
Gladiator 4' GearWall Panels (2-Pack)
Gladiator · GearWall Panels

The lowest published panel rating in this comparison at 50 lb per square foot, which is easy to miss because Gladiator rates its own GearTrack rail in a completely different unit on an adjacent page. Buy it for the accessory ecosystem, not for the load number.

Published as 'Holds 50 lbs per square ft.' Re-checked 2026-10-15: the figure is unchanged on Gladiator's own page, but the 2-pack (GAWP042P) is unavailable on Amazon again - briefly listed in mid-October, now back to 'Currently unavailable'. Gladiator publishes the panel dimensions but no square-foot coverage for the pack.

- Color-matched screws included
- Rated by Gladiator to handle heat, cold and humidity extremes
- 50 lb/sq ft is the lowest published panel rating in this comparison
- Neither a load distance nor a stud spacing is published
- A 2-pack covers only about 8 sq ft, so a single-bay wall takes several packs
- No live Amazon listing as of October 2026, so the buy button runs a search
The most widely shelved slatwall in the country and the lowest published panel figure on this site at 50 lb per square foot. That is not a reason to dismiss it: it is a published figure from a maker that also states the substrate — bare wood studs or drywall — and backs the 8 ft pack with a 10-year limited warranty, which is more than most panels here manage.
The costs are the number and the route. Fifty pounds per square foot is half NewAge and a sixth of storeWALL, it publishes nothing for a cabinet, and its Amazon listing carries no live price as we write, so the button here runs a search. Its sibling GearTrack channel is rated in a different unit again, which is the trap covered in GearTrack against FastTrack.

The same PVC slatwall and the same published 75 lb per square foot as the 8 foot section, in the smallest pack Proslat sells. This is the one to buy when the wall you actually mean to cover is a single bay between a door and a corner, rather than a whole garage side.
- Load distance:
- not stated by the manufacturer, so treat the figure as a flat-against-the-wall number
- Fastening:
- 1-1/2" #8 pan head screws, studs at 16" spacing
Proslat publishes 'PVC Slatwall can hold up to 75 lbs. per sq.ft.' for the PVC line, with the fastener and 16 in. stud spacing stated. No load distance is given, and the FAQ does not break the rating out by SKU, so the figure is the line's rather than this pack's.

- PVC, so garage humidity is not a consideration
- Costs more per square foot of wall than the 8 ft section
- Proslat's FAQ does not document this pack, so its size comes from the listing
- No coverage figure published by anyone - it has to be derived
- No load distance published, so bracket-hung shelving stays unquantified
One 4 ft by 4 ft section at the same published 75 lb per square foot as the big Proslat pack, for a fraction of the outlay. The right buy if you want to hang one wall of a two-car garage, or to see how the slots take your hooks before committing to a full field.
Sixteen square feet does not go far — the coverage arithmetic is in how many panels you need and most garages need several packs. Buying in singles costs more per square foot than the multi-pack, and it carries the same silences: no cabinet rating, no load distance.

The only wall system in this comparison that publishes what its rating assumes about distance: 300 lb at the panel surface, 165 lb four inches out. That second number is the honest one for anything on a bracket, and every other manufacturer here leaves you to guess at it.

- Highest cost per square foot of the PVC systems compared here
Not a big-store panel at all, and it is here as the benchmark the shelf does not show you: 300 lb per square foot at the panel surface, and uniquely in this category, the derated figure four inches out — 165 lb. It is the only brand anywhere in these comparisons that tells you what distance costs.
You will not find it at any of these three stores, it carries no live price through our links so the button runs a search, and it is a specialist purchase at a specialist price. It publishes no cabinet rating either. But if the reason you are reading a slatwall page is that you want a number you can design against, this is the number.
- You want to see the slot profile and the finish before committing
- You need it this weekend and the project is already started
- Lowe's NewAge is the panel you want - there is no other route to it
- A club bundle with hooks is cheaper than panels and hooks bought apart
- You want Proslat, which is available online at a live price
- You want storeWALL's numbers, which no big store stocks
- Club stock has gone and you do not want to wait for it to return
- You need a specific coverage and the shelf only has one pack size
For the full field including the brands none of these stores carry, the ranked comparison is the best garage wall systems, and what the panels are actually made of is in PVC against MDF against metal.
