Affiliate Disclosure

The disclosure, in one paragraph

Steel Slat is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through our links, at no extra cost to you. Our Amazon tracking tag is steelslat-20.

How the links work

Every buy button on this site points at a redirect on this domain (a URL starting /go/) which forwards you to the retailer with our tracking tag attached. It exists for two reasons: it lets us count clicks so we know which pages are useful, and it means a product’s destination can be changed in one place rather than by editing every page that mentions it.

Those redirect URLs are excluded from search engines and are never indexed. They also carry rel="sponsored nofollow", which is what Google’s link-spam policy requires of an affiliate link.

Commission does not influence rankings

Rankings on this site are decided against the published criteria on The Method — normalized load ratings and disclosure quality — before affiliate availability is looked at.

The strongest evidence we can offer for that is not a promise, it is the content: 6 of the 133 products compared on this site cannot be bought through us at all.

• Yukon 30" x 72" Garage Cabinet (Harbor Freight) — Yukon is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.
• Yukon 48" x 72" Garage Cabinet (Harbor Freight) — Yukon is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.
• Trusscore SlatWall — Trusscore is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.
• Husky Ready-to-Assemble Steel Garage Cabinet — Husky is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.
• Kobalt Steel Garage Cabinet — Kobalt is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.
• Husky Adjustable Height Workbench — Husky is a store exclusive or is not sold through any program we have joined. No buy button appears for it anywhere on this site, and we earn nothing whichever way you go.

Some of those are the value pick in their category. Leaving the cheapest credible option out of a comparison to protect a commission would make the comparison worthless to the person reading it, so we do not.

What we do not accept

• No sponsored placements. No manufacturer has paid to appear here, and none can.
• No free products. We have accepted nothing from any manufacturer. This is easy for us, since we do not test products.
• No paid reviews or paid links. Not sold, not entertained.
• No affiliate programs we have not joined. Amazon is the only network wired into this site. Where a product is not sold there, we say so rather than pointing you at a program we are not part of.

On prices

Prices on this site are live. Our price layer reads them from the Amazon Creators API on a daily refresh, stamps them with the date they were checked, and expires anything older than 48 hours — so a missed refresh removes every number rather than leaving a stale one. Where a product has no current offer the button reads “check price” and takes you to a search rather than to a listing that cannot be bought. No price is ever written into page copy.

On product ratings and reviews

We publish no star ratings of our own and no testimonials, because we have neither. Steel Slat is a new publisher with no customer reviews, and it is not going to invent any. Where we describe a product as good or bad, that is our editorial judgment based on the published figures, and the figures are linked so you can disagree with us from the same evidence.
