Steel Slat is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through our links, at no extra cost to you. Our Amazon tracking tag is steelslat-20.

How the links work

Every buy button on this site points at a redirect on this domain (a URL starting /go/) which forwards you to the retailer with our tracking tag attached. It exists for two reasons: it lets us count clicks so we know which pages are useful, and it means a product’s destination can be changed in one place rather than by editing every page that mentions it.

Those redirect URLs are excluded from search engines and are never indexed. They also carry rel="sponsored nofollow", which is what Google’s link-spam policy requires of an affiliate link.

Commission does not influence rankings

Rankings on this site are decided against the published criteria on The Method — normalized load ratings and disclosure quality — before affiliate availability is looked at.

The strongest evidence we can offer for that is not a promise, it is the content: 4 of the 23 products compared on this site cannot be bought through us at all.

Some of those are the value pick in their category. Leaving the cheapest credible option out of a comparison to protect a commission would make the comparison worthless to the person reading it, so we do not.

What we do not accept

• No sponsored placements. No manufacturer has paid to appear here, and none can.
• No free products. We have accepted nothing from any manufacturer. This is easy for us, since we do not test products.
• No paid reviews or paid links. Not sold, not entertained.
• No affiliate programs we have not joined. Amazon is the only network wired into this site. Where a product is not sold there, we say so rather than pointing you at a program we are not part of.

On prices

There are currently no prices displayed anywhere on this site. Our price layer reads live figures and stamps them with the date they were checked, expiring anything older than 48 hours; that feed is not yet active here. Until it is, every button reads “check price” and takes you to the current listing rather than repeating a number that could be months old. When prices appear they will carry the date they were checked.

On product ratings and reviews

We publish no star ratings of our own and no testimonials, because we have neither. Steel Slat is a new publisher with no customer reviews, and it is not going to invent any. Where we describe a product as good or bad, that is our editorial judgment based on the published figures, and the figures are linked so you can disagree with us from the same evidence.
