The thing none of those photographs tell you is what it is made of, and on a site where every other cabinet is folded steel, that is the first thing to establish.

It is a board cabinet

The listings for the current 2.0 series state the construction plainly: 3/4 inch MDF and particleboard carcass with a textured PVC laminate, and a 3/4 inch MDF facing under a gloss metallic PVC laminate. Not folded steel, not welded steel, not a steel frame with board panels. Board, laminated.

That is not a gotcha and it is not hidden — it is printed on the listings. But it is a fact almost nobody carries into the comparison, because the range is sold beside steel cabinets, at steel-cabinet prices, in the same search results.

That is a manufacturer designing around the known weakness of its own material, and saying so. A concrete garage floor gives up moisture, board takes it up at the exposed bottom edge, and swollen board does not shrink back. Six inches of aluminum between the two is the correct answer to that problem, and stating the reason out loud is more disclosure than several steel brands manage about anything.

What the premium actually buys

Put plainly: you are paying for the finish, the hinges, the worktop and the warranty, and you are paying it in a material that is less forgiving of a garage than steel. Whether that is a good trade depends almost entirely on the garage. An attached, insulated, dry garage that doubles as a presentable space is where this range earns its money. A detached, unheated garage with a bare concrete floor is where it does not.

Who should buy it

Buy Ulti-MATE if the garage is finished and dry, if how it looks is part of the point, and if you want a worktop-centered run rather than a wall of steel doors. Buy the three-piece set, not the tall kit, and buy one cabinet first if you can, because a board carcass in your specific garage is the one variable no review can settle for you.
